The Golden Globes were a fashion heaven. There was a fantastic array of gorgeous dresses from short and see through, to long and full and we’ve spent a while adoring them all and noticed the following trends:
Under The Sea: Sea Green Shades
Celebrities including Jodie Foster in Armani, Freida Pinto in Prada and Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Maria Lucia Hohan, took inspiration from the deep seas with pretty palettes, wave-like ruffles and shimmery fluid tones.
Barely There: Nude Hues
Soft nude hues were a red carpet favourite throughout 2011 and it appears there are no signs of this trend stopping in 2012. However, these perfectly soft shades are being worn with a difference in 2012. While last year’s nude tones were accompanied by shimmer and sparkle, 2012′s are a far more muted affair, coupled with statement jewels, à la Heidi Klum’s Calvin Klein Collection dress, pretty capped sleeves, like Julie Bowen’s vintage Reem Acra number, or a chunky gold bangle, added by Kristen Wiig to her Bill Blass.
Show-stopping: Shimmer and Sparkling Silver
With Lea Michele in Marchesa, Nicole Richie in Julien Macdonald and Andie MacDowell in an embroidered asymmetric number, this metallic trend seems to be attracting the a-list like a magnet. Whether patterned, bejwelled or cut from acres of slinky fabric, this red carpet trend was hot.
Comeback Colour: Classic Claret
Claret made a comeback at the Golden Globes and was worn by the likes of Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta, Viola Davis in Emilio Pucci and Emma Stone in Lanvin, who all sported this grown-up shade. Think simple, clean lines, a rich warming hue and minimal accessories.
Bold and Beautiful: Colour Blocking
Star’s including Natalie Portman in Lanvin, Maria Menounos in a yellow sequinned column gown and Laura Linney in J. Mendel were all beautifully bold in Spring/Summer 2012′s hottest trend, Colour Block. The A-list kept the look clean and simple with pared-down accessories, and simple updos.
Wonderfully White: Bridal
Do we hear the sound of wedding bells? While a gorgeous white gown is certainly nothing new, the A-list’s take on the 2012 trend had a distinctly bridal feel with Amanda Peet in an asymmetric lace gown, Jessica Biel in Elie Saab and Elle Macpherson in Zac Posen among our favourites.
