With New York fashion week just coming to a close, we at Profile Fashion thought we would have a sneak peak at some of the autumn trends for 2013.

From our favourites Diane Von Furstenberg, Lacoste and Y3 we noticed that the spring/summer brights will continue to be refined late into the year teamed with strong wool’s and hard-wearing outerwear fabrics.

We are also glad to see the contemporary take on seventies chic will also be following suit and from free flowing sun dresses into a stunning range of autumn wear courtesy of Diane Von Furstenbrg.

Ralph Lauren took their tailored heritage look to a new level of sophistication with rich monotone styling and side button detailing.

The real star of the collection, though, was the Flora print. Like its designer, it’s grown up some. Giannini called it “unfinished,” pointing out the black and white flowers set in between and behind the coloured-in ones. The floral motif turned up on everything from a white linen peacoat to the hem of a strapless silk jersey dress, but it was freshest on a belted dress in a blue and white stripe borrowed from a man’s dress shirt.

Have we shedded every ounce of our past when it comes to clothing? In such a fast paced world where everything is constantly evolving and even fashion is changed every six months to keep up with the time but have we just become sloppy?

Wearing a shirt buttoned to the top without a tie or bow tie has been seen as outrageous particularly by the older generations, but are those who wear it buttoned to the top actually paying homage to the times where we would take pride in our appearance and want to appear our smartest, Whilst those who just happily sit back and take a more relaxed approach with a couple of buttons undone are lazy?

The unbuttoning of the shirt has quite a simple guidelines to follow; depending what situation you are in, you can unbutton more or less for example at work, most people would find just the top button un-done suitable and in a bar some might unbutton two, perhaps three. With this in mind I wonder how a particular trend came about of unbuttoning your shirt, from the bottom upwards which has proven popular with the tumblr generation and younger, hip types.

We went out onto the streets to get some of the public’s opinions on the situation

“Within high fashion mens shows that include tailoring like Prada and Karl Lagerfeld, high buttoned collars look really good, but in everyday wear they tend to look a bit “trendy”. The kind of guy who wears his button to the top is an Urban outfitters worker, or young lad on the pull. It doesn’t look bad, but it just has connections to a certain age and social group, I personally like to wear mine unbuttoned to show my chest hair”

“I like the look. I feel it smartens up an outfit without being too much -  it still feels casual.The best dressed people wear their buttons to the top, I do my top buttons up because I prefer how it looks but generally I wear a tshirt underneath with the final buttons open to show a detail which makes the look more casual.”

“I think it looks too try hard and unnatural, when done without a tie. The young and indie fans appear to be donning the trend however I prefer to wear mine traditionally, open necked (when not with a tie).”

I think the top button done up is a fantastic look both younger guys and older gentlemen, how do you wear yours?

If you want to try either look out here are a few tips to keep in mind.

If you are trying  it out for the first time, keep things simple.
Go for a plain block colour shirt  like this Armani Jeans black cotton shirt and if you want to unbutton your shirt from below always wear a T-shirt underneath in a contrasting colour but white or grey is fool proof option

If you want to get smart, make sure its classic.

An Oxford shirt is ideal like this Ralph Lauren blue Oxford shirt with a tie that has a contrasting colour like this Giorgio Armani Pink and Silver striped tie
