In 1972, Ralph Lauren introduced the original knit polo shirt in 24 colours. Before Ralph Lauren made the polo shirt a wardrobe staple, it was the favoured uniform of polo players, because the short turned-over collar stayed down during play. For Ralph Lauren, there was no better way to celebrate this heritage than to place the signature pony logo on these shirts.
